Propel is seeking a State Partnerships Manager to join its Government & Public Partnerships team and help grow its mission to strengthen the social safety net. This is a unique opportunity to build long-term, strategic relationships with state government agencies that administer benefits like SNAP and Medicaid. Furthermore, you will work at the intersection of public policy and business development, helping Propel improve public programs while driving business goals.

What You’ll Do


  • Build Relationships: You will build and manage relationships with leaders at state agencies that administer safety net benefits (e.g., SNAP, Medicaid, TANF).
  • Drive Partnerships: You will lead both inbound and outbound efforts to identify and advance partnership opportunities with states. In addition, you will develop customized proposals and partnership models, collaborating closely with legal, product, and business teams.
  • Act as an Ambassador: You will serve as a compelling ambassador for Propel’s mission, representing the company in high-stakes conversations with government officials and policy leaders.
  • Contribute to Strategy: You will collaborate cross-functionally with research, policy, product, and engineering teams to shape Propel’s strategy and ensure the voice of government partners is reflected in the product roadmap.

What You’ll Need


  • You must have at least 4 years of relevant experience in government partnerships, business development, or public sector strategy. Experience working with or within state government is a plus.
  • You must be a strong communicator who can write and speak persuasively and diplomatically with both senior officials and internal stakeholders.
  • You will need a track record of initiating and advancing complex partnerships or cross-sector collaborations.
  • You must be a self-starter who can move projects forward without a strict playbook.
  • On the other hand, familiarity with the social safety net (e.g., SNAP, Medicaid, EBT systems) is preferred, or you can demonstrate an eagerness to learn quickly.

Compensation & Benefits for State Partnerships Manager


Propel offers a competitive compensation package based on how a candidate matches our internal leveling guide. For this reason, the expected compensation for this role ranges from $120,000 – $150,000. Furthermore, you will enjoy:

  • This is a remote-friendly role. However, the ideal candidate is based in the Mid-Atlantic or Southeast. The team also meets in-person for optional retreats.
