Opportunity: Women’s Empowerment Communications Specialist Consultant in Lebanon
Presently, UN Women actively recruits a highly competent Women’s Empowerment Communications Specialist consultant. This individual, therefore, will develop and execute essential media materials related to women’s empowerment and women’s leadership in Lebanon.
This Communications Specialist will report directly to the Women’s Political Participation Programme Manager, who will supervise this consultancy as the primary focal point. Additionally, a program assistant will provide support, handling contract and payment-related inquiries. Importantly, the Women’s Empowerment Communications Specialist will collaborate across multiple critical programs, including Women’s Political Participation (WPP), Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE), and the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF).
Key Responsibilities and Scope of Work for the Women’s Empowerment Communications Specialist
The selected candidate for this consultancy will undertake a diverse range of responsibilities, all aimed at amplifying UN Women’s impact. Specifically, they will:
- Develop and Execute Media Campaigns: A core responsibility involves designing and implementing a robust media campaign. This campaign, moreover, will disseminate key findings and insights from a study on women’s participation in political parties in Lebanon. The ultimate goal, therefore, is to reach a diverse audience and maximize the study’s impact, alongside supporting other programs with their communication needs. This role is central to our women’s empowerment initiatives.
The comprehensive Scope of Work includes:
Managing Digital Platforms and Content Creation for a Women’s Empowerment Communications Specialist
- Manage the Feminist Platform’s website.
- Support the platform in producing all necessary media materials. This includes, but is not limited to, designing and uploading press releases to its website and social media channels; consistently updating social media with new materials as needed; developing visuals, short videos, and infographics; and refining its overall communication and messaging.
- Design various crucial documents, such as reports, portfolio documents, briefing papers, and PowerPoint presentations. Furthermore, the Women’s Empowerment Communications Specialist will produce dissemination plans for these materials.
- Draft a complete communication plan. This plan, for example, could involve producing videos, testimonies, reels, visual designs, motion graphic videos, and photographs. Moreover, the consultant will suggest a social media plan for effective dissemination.
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that directly align with relevant program goals and objectives for women’s empowerment.
Supporting Events and Branding: The Women’s Empowerment Communications Specialist’s Role
- Provide crucial communication support for event preparations. This encompasses producing invitations, PowerPoint presentations, banners, backdrops, and any other visual materials required for specific events. Additionally, they will create a banner template for use by UN Women Lebanon and its partners.
- Develop project joint branding and ensure its consistent application to all project visibility collateral, thereby enhancing project visibility.
- Develop a generic donor briefing template in both Word and PowerPoint formats.
- Develop a dedicated micro-page on the UN Women Lebanon website, prominently featuring the project’s joint branding and acknowledging all stakeholders. This webpage, furthermore, also requires frequent updates with relevant stories and publications.
Building Capacity and Disseminating Information as a Women’s Empowerment Communications Specialist
- Organize and conduct training sessions for implementing partners on project-specific communications guidelines and empowering advocacy tools.
- Support the writing and dissemination of press releases and media advisories throughout the duration of the project.
- Produce and disseminate compelling human-interest stories and profiles of women and girls from diverse vulnerable groups impacted by the crisis. These stories will appear in interactive formats, such as photo essays, videos, and interactive webpages. Subsequently, UN Women Lebanon and its partners will disseminate them on their respective websites. This directly supports our women’s empowerment goals.

Qualifications
Education and Certification
- A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism, or a relevant field is required.
- Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may suffice.
Experience
- At least 5 years of professional work experience at national or international levels in public relations, communications, or advocacy, including specific experience in media relations, is required.
- Demonstrated experience using social media is required.
- Experience in gender and human rights issues is, naturally, considered a valuable asset.
- Proficiency in computer skills, statistics, internet communication, and command of MS Office is required.
Languages
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of Arabic or French is, moreover, a distinct asset.
