About the Web Developer Role

RTI International is one of the world’s leading research institutes, dedicated to improving the human condition by turning knowledge into practice. We have an immediate opening for a Web Developer specializing in NAEP and NRC public and private website and application development. Therefore, this person will drive the development and accessibility of products throughout the product lifecycle to ensure exceptional customer experiences.

The Web Developer will have extensive knowledge of web products that support educational assessments, reporting, and data systems. In addition, you will manage the assignments and workloads of junior developers, champion human-centered design, and ensure accessibility. Furthermore, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams at every stage to prioritize end-user needs.


 

What the Web Developer Will Do

 

  • First, collaborate across the organization and with NAEP and NRC clients to drive and define product development.
  • Next, be involved in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for NAEP and NRC web products, from requirements gathering to post-production support.
  • Additionally, work with a multidisciplinary team (e.g., UX, content, research, design, and development) using quality standards. You will also promote innovation and creative thinking.
  • Similarly, serve as a development team lead for junior developers, assigning, prioritizing, and troubleshooting tasks. You will also peer review and approve new products, updates, or bug fixes.
  • In this role, ensure that NAEP and NRC product software are maintained, updated, and eventually retired when necessary.
  • For instance, work with project management staff to create work plans outlining the timeline, processes, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Furthermore, communicate internal and external timelines to the project team and stakeholders using project management software (e.g., JIRA, Asana, Trello, Smartsheet).
  • In addition to all of this, provide clear, concise, and accurate communication to NAEP and NRC clients.
  • Likewise, generate NAEP and NRC product software engineering policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Finally, complete additional duties as identified in collaboration with your supervisor and project teams.

 

Web Developer: What You’ll Need

 

  • Experience: As a web programmer, you must have a minimum of 15 years of demonstrated experience developing data-driven web products and applications. The experience should be focused on disseminating NAEP and NRC education assessment data and insights.
  • Furthermore, you must have demonstrated product development success in determining system design requirements for NAEP and NRC public and private websites and applications.
  • Similarly, you must have demonstrated product development success in all SDLC attributes for the NAEP and NRC public websites.
  • In addition, you must have demonstrated product development success in all SDLC attributes for private NAEP-related web applications (CF, NN, IMS, SPTS, PCTS, SVSM, NRTS, GB, NPSO, OARS).
  • Accessibility: You must be able to conduct reviews of websites, applications, and functionality for Section 508 compliance.
  • Moreover, you must have current Public Trust Clearance through the U.S. Department of Education.
  • On the other hand, these are our Desired Qualifications:
    • A Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of experience, a Master’s and 6+ years, or a Ph.D. and 1+ years.
    • Demonstrated success in web development or software engineering roles, leading junior developers while prioritizing multiple tasks.
    • Extensive programming skills with 15+ years of experience developing data-driven web applications using SharePoint, ASP.NET, ADO.NET, HTML, jQuery, JavaScript, CSS, SQL, and MVC.

 

Pay and Benefits

The anticipated pay range for this role is $130,000 – $161,000. RTI offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including a competitive base salary, generous paid time off, annual increases, and bonus opportunities.
