About the Role: Statistical Support Consultant at UNICEF

UNICEF’s Division of Data, Analytics, Planning and Monitoring (DAPM) seeks a Statistical Support Consultant. This remote role specifically focuses on strengthening program management through robust data analysis. You will primarily support Country Offices in conducting equity analysis and developing methodologies for assessing child vulnerabilities at sub-national levels. This critical work helps prioritize interventions for the most disadvantaged children. You will embed within the Monitoring Unit of the Programme Effectiveness Team, collaborating closely with the Data and Analytics Team.


 

Key Responsibilities for this Statistical Support Consultant

As a Statistical Support Consultant, you will:

  • Guide Indicator Selection: Support 6-8 Country Offices (COs) in selecting relevant child rights and socio-economic indicators.
  • Develop Vulnerability Calculations: Create statistical calculations to determine child vulnerability levels at sub-national levels, considering multiple deprivations and hazards. This is a core function of this Statistical Support Consultant role.
  • Prepare Country Reports & Build Capacity: Support the development of country reports outlining analysis methodology for replication and capacity building to measure ‘change’ over time.
  • Design Analytical Tools: Support the creation of tools to visualize equity analysis evidence, including geo-spatial maps, scorecards, and graphs.
  • Support Automation & Rollout: Collaborate with geo-spatial consultants to automate and roll out the Equity Analysis base layer, including developing guidance and training packages.

Deliverables for the Statistical Support Consultant

Your contributions will include:

  • Guidance package for indicator selection (by December 31, 2025)
  • Cleaned, formatted, and coded datasets for mapping (by December 31, 2025)
  • Statistical calculations and outputs for child vulnerability (by December 31, 2025)
  • 6-8 Country Reports for equity analysis with findings and recommendations, and presentations to CO senior management (by December 31, 2025)
  • Guidance notes and training package on conducting equity analysis (by January 31, 2026)

 

Qualifications for this Statistical Support Consultant Position

We seek a highly qualified Statistical Support Consultant with:

  • Education: An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Statistics, Econometrics, Demography, Economics, or Data Science.
  • Experience:
    • 7-10 years’ experience in data analysis and reporting.
    • Expert knowledge of Excel notation and statistical modeling.
    • Expertise in summary statistics and hypothesis testing.
    • Proficiency in languages like R, SAS, Stata.
    • 5-8 years’ experience in developing statistical models is an asset.
    • Experience working at the country office level is an asset.
  • Skills: Excellent communication (verbal and writing) and interpersonal skills. Fluent in English (additional UN language is an asset). Demonstrated commitment, diversity, integrity, and drive for results.
