About the Role: The UNHCR Communications Officer in Peru
As an Associate Communications Officer, you’ll be instrumental in developing and executing communication strategies that align with UNHCR’s global objectives. Specifically, your work will involve:
- Leading Communication Efforts: This includes overseeing and coordinating communication activities, such as strategy development, team leadership, and brand management.
- Driving Media Engagement: Moreover, as a UNHCR Communications Officer, you’ll cultivate strong relationships with media outlets, acting as a spokesperson, and ensuring prominent coverage of refugee situations in Peru and beyond.
- Producing Impactful Content: Furthermore, you’ll be responsible for creating compelling news-driven, authoritative, and emotive content (press releases, stories, multimedia) that resonates with target audiences.
- Managing Campaigns: In addition, you’ll design and implement advocacy campaigns on social or humanitarian topics, from concept to successful execution.
- Analyzing Performance: Crucially, you’ll use digital analytics to monitor media coverage, social media engagement, and web traffic, providing valuable insights for continuous improvement.
- Stakeholder Management: Lastly, you’ll build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including media, UN agencies, government, and donors for UNHCR operations.
We’re Looking For the Right UNHCR Communications Officer
To be considered for this role, candidates should meet the following essential criteria:
- Experience: First and foremost, we require at least 3 years of proven experience leading a communications team and developing communication strategies. Additionally, a minimum of 1 year of professional experience in journalism and/or communications, primarily at the international level, is essential.
- Education: A university degree in Journalism, Communications, Film/Video, Public Information, or a related field.
- Skills:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish.
- Furthermore, proven experience in designing communication campaigns related to social or humanitarian topics.
- Experience with brand management, digital asset management systems, and performance reporting is also required for this UNHCR Communications Officer role.
- Moreover, a strong background in reporting, writing, and editing for various platforms (magazines, newspapers, and websites).
- Experience in preparing internal and external communications documents (press releases, talking points, key messages) is vital.
- Beyond that, proven experience in stakeholder management (media, UN agencies, government, and donors).
- Finally, the ability to act as a spokesperson and engage effectively with journalists and public audiences.
