About This Social Protection & Microeconomics Role
As a key team member, you’ll play a crucial role in conceptualizing, initiating, and implementing regional and sub-regional initiatives on socioeconomic issues. Furthermore, you’ll consistently provide vital support to Country Offices in the Arab states region. This includes offering guidance on fiscal and social protection policies and programming, thereby helping to build resilient societies based on decent jobs. Consequently, your expertise will prove instrumental in addressing the socioeconomic impacts of multiple shocks and, ultimately, promoting inclusive, sustainable development.
Key Responsibilities of the Microeconomist
Research and Analysis
- You’ll meticulously conduct high-quality research in social protection and microeconomics.
- In addition, you’ll offer crucial technical support on data collection (primary and secondary, disaggregated) and tools to assess micro-level socioeconomic impact and trends.
Program Support and Development
- Moreover, you’ll actively support Country Offices as they implement poverty and inequality reduction strategies from a social protection perspective, including policy dialogue and analytical work.
- Beyond that, you’ll regularly provide training to Country Offices as needed.
- Furthermore, you’ll actively help design and develop socioeconomic recovery programs and strategies at both regional and country levels.
Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
- You’ll also significantly contribute to UNDP’s corporate efforts on the informal economy, collaborating closely with the Gender Team.
- Consequently, you’ll effectively boost regional knowledge management and advocacy initiatives.
- Lastly, you’ll expertly organize relevant events for RBAS.
Documentation and Communication
- Finally, you’ll diligently prepare notes, briefs, presentations, and project proposals.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience in Microeconomics
- An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Economics, Statistics, Development Economics, or a related field is absolutely required.
- Alternatively, a first-level university degree in these fields, combined with an additional two years of qualifying experience, will be considered.
- You should have a minimum of two (2) years with a Master’s degree or four (4) years with a Bachelor’s degree of progressively responsible experience in microeconomic/social protection analysis and support in development programs.
Skills & Competencies for a Social Protection Officer
- You must clearly demonstrate the ability to provide technical advice on social protection in programming.
- We seek a creative and proactive approach to program development, working across teams and sectors.
- Significantly, strong writing and analytical skills in English are essential.
- Knowledge of current and emerging socioeconomic challenges in the Arab states region is highly desirable.
- Furthermore, familiarity with UNDP’s guidelines and project management tools is a definite plus.
Languages
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Arabic is required.
- Additionally, knowledge of French or another UN language is desirable.
