About the Role & UNDP

The UNDP is the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development within the UN Development System. In its mission to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UNDP, in fact, established the Sustainable Finance Hub. This hub aggregates expertise on financing the SDGs. Chief of Strategy

Within this framework, the UNDP supports the Taskforce on Inequality and Social-related Financial Disclosures (TISFD). TISFD is a global initiative focused on developing a framework for reporting and managing inequality and social-related risks. The framework is expected to be developed over three years through December 2027. Consequently, the Chief of Strategy will work within the TISFD Secretariat to lead this initiative.

Key Responsibilities

As the Chief of Strategy, you will provide leadership in the operationalization of the TISFD Strategic Plan. Your duties include:

Strategic Leadership & Operations

  • You will work closely with the Executive Director to ensure the Secretariat’s activities align with its strategic priorities.
  • Furthermore, you will develop and oversee the implementation of project management plans.
  • You will, therefore, provide direction on how to adapt the strategic plan based on continuous testing and learning.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, you will, moreover, implement the resource mobilization strategy and engage with donors to ensure sustainable funding.
  • In addition, you will build and lead a skilled and diverse Secretariat team. Your goal is to foster a culture of excellence and collaboration.

 

Stakeholder Engagement

  • You will lead the development of TISFD’s overall engagement strategy. You will also provide strategic oversight of its delivery.
  • You will, consequently, build and oversee the diverse talent needed to implement the engagement strategy, including managing an Engagement Team of 4-5 people.
  • Similarly, you will ensure integration between the Secretariat’s engagement, communications, and technical functions.
  • Furthermore, you will provide strategic oversight of TISFD’s Regional Councils and Global Alliance. This ensures a diverse range of stakeholder perspectives inform the project deliverables.

 

Relationship Building & Knowledge Management

  • You will, therefore, build relationships with key senior stakeholders across the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. This ensures TISFD’s recommendations are practical, usable, and globally relevant.
  • Additionally, you will participate and speak at events and meetings to build awareness of TISFD.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, you will also ensure the effective engagement of the TISFD Steering Committee and Stewardship Council members.

 

Required Qualifications for Chief of Strategy

Education

  • An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in International Development, International Relations, Business Administration, Economics, or another relevant field is required.
  • Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the areas mentioned above with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be considered.

Experience

  • You must have a minimum of 10 years (with a master’s degree) or 12 years (with a bachelor’s degree) of experience in sustainable finance, sustainability standards, social responsibility, or business and human rights.
  • You must also have experience leading complex multi-stakeholder and multi-disciplinary initiatives to successful outcomes in a global context.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with corporate sustainability disclosure frameworks (e.g., TCFD, TNFD, GRI) is desired.
  • Experience working with the private sector to tackle inequality and/or social-related issues is also desirable.
  • A track record in developing sustainability strategies is an advantage.
  • Furthermore, experience in fundraising for complex, multi-million-dollar program budgets is an advantage.
