You’ll use your writing skills to communicate complex ideas clearly and powerfully.
About UNOPS and Energy Transition Initiatives in Southeast Asia
The UNOPS South East Asia and Pacific Multi-Country Office (EAPMCO) manages diverse development projects across 24 countries, including energy transition initiatives. In 2024, it supported more than USD 80 million in areas like clean energy, infrastructure, environmental management, digital transformation, and public health.
Through this role, you’ll contribute to content that amplifies real progress in the clean energy transition, supports donor engagement, and raises awareness about climate-focused projects in the region.
Role Overview: Technical Writer Supporting the Clean Energy Transition
This is a retainer-based, home-based position. As a Technical Writer Energy Transition, you will be called upon as needed to support communications for energy-related initiatives in Southeast Asia.
Key Responsibilities for the Energy Transition Writer Role

Draft and edit reports, case studies, and technical publications related to clean energy

Translate complex energy transition topics into accessible, engaging content

Create donor communications, briefing notes, and project summaries

Ensure consistent voice, tone, and messaging aligned with ETP goals

Collaborate with program teams and specialists to gather insights
-
Support the visibility of clean energy policy and project outcomes
Your work will help share success stories, simplify technical data, and inform both regional and global stakeholders about Southeast Asia’s energy transition efforts.
About the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership (ETP)
Hosted by UNOPS, ETP is a multi-stakeholder platform designed to accelerate energy transition in countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The partnership focuses on reducing fossil fuel dependence while promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Qualifications for the Technical Writer Energy Transition Role
Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communications, journalism, public policy, energy, or a related field

A Bachelor’s degree with two extra years of experience may also be accepted
Experience
-
Minimum of five years’ experience in technical writing, editing, or communications
-
Proven ability to communicate technical or policy content clearly
-
Experience with energy, climate, or sustainability topics is preferred
-
Background with international organizations or development programs is an asset
Skills

Exceptional writing and storytelling skills

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Comfortable working with remote, multicultural teams
-
Familiarity with energy transition or clean energy systems is a plus
Language

Fluency in English (required)

Knowledge of regional languages (e.g., Bahasa Indonesia, Vietnamese, Filipino) is a bonus
Terms and Conditions of the Retainer Contract

Contract type: International Individual Contractor Agreement (IICA – Retainer)

Duty station: Remote / Home-based

Working time: Task-based, as needed

Onboarding: Mandatory UNOPS training (~4 hours, unpaid) required before first assignment

Background checks: Conducted prior to final engagement
