Staff Accountant, Open Technology Fund ($100,000 annually)

The Open Technology Fund (OTF) is seeking a motivated Staff Accountant to join our Operations Department. As a key member of the finance team, you will manage daily accounting tasks, prepare financial statements, and contribute to the overall efficient operation of the department. This is a unique opportunity to use your skills to support an organization dedicated to human rights and Internet freedom globally. The salary for this position is $100,000 annually.
The Role: Your Impact as a Staff Accountant
Your work as a Staff Accountant will, therefore, provide crucial financial support to OTF. This is an ideal position for a proactive self-starter who excels at managing a full workload and prioritizing efficiently. Although we prefer that you work from our Washington, D.C. office, we do offer flexibility for remote work as approved.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Invoicing and Payments: You will enter contract information and vendor invoices in Intacct, review bills for compliance with contract terms, and process payments.
- Reconciliations and Journal Entries: To this end, you will prepare monthly bank, credit card, and other reconciliations. Furthermore, you will prepare monthly journal entries and assist with year-year-end adjusting and closing entries.
- Reporting and Audits: In addition, you will prepare standard and ad-hoc financial reports for internal and external audiences. Moreover, you will support external audits by preparing necessary schedules and documentation.
- Data Management: Specifically, you will maintain and update vendor records and financial data to ensure accuracy and timely availability.
- Project Support: Finally, you will assist with reviewing expenses, payroll records, and other accounting projects as needed.

Who We’re Looking For: Qualifications and Skills
To qualify for this Staff Accountant position, you must have two or more years of related experience, preferably in a nonprofit or grant-funded environment.
We are looking for someone with:
- Accounting Expertise: A strong foundational understanding of accounting principles, including debits and credits, as well as knowledge of financial statements.
- Technical Skills: Proven experience with ERP and bookkeeping software like Intacct. You must also be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly with strong Excel skills including pivot tables and VLookup/HLookup.
- Communication: The ability to communicate financial ideas and concepts efficiently and quickly to both leadership and non-financial personnel.
