UNESCO seeks a Senior Project Officer for a key role. In fact, the officer will lead the monitoring of global progress on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, Target 4.7. They will be the main specialist overseeing the reporting process for the new Recommendation on Education for Peace and Human Rights.

To be specific, the officer will collaborate with partners to analyze data on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Consequently, they will ensure UNESCO’s input into key international groups. First and foremost, the Senior Project Officer will be the central point for monitoring and reporting on a new UNESCO Recommendation and on SDG Target 4.7.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Data Analysis: Gather, analyze, and identify relevant data from partners. For instance, they will support the new monitoring mechanism for the 2023 Recommendation.
  • Global Monitoring: Co-lead the working group on Target 4.7 within the Global Alliance on Monitoring Learning (GAML). Furthermore, they will actively contribute to other key international groups.
  • Oversight & Support: Oversee the quadrennial reporting process for the 2023 Recommendation. In addition, they will support countries in their reporting obligations and facilitate peer-learning workshops.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation: The officer will undertake M&E tasks for the section. Moreover, they will contribute to the monitoring of various education programs, including the global dashboard on climate change education.
  • Resource Mobilization: The officer will contribute to fundraising efforts. This includes identifying potential donors and preparing project proposals.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Education: The role requires an advanced university degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience: Candidates need a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience. This includes at least three years at the international level.
  • Skills: An excellent understanding of education monitoring and data analysis is key. Furthermore, the ability to produce visuals like graphs and infographics is required. Excellent writing skills in English are a must.
  • Languages: Excellent knowledge of English is required, and a working knowledge of French is needed.
