The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) seeks a dedicated School Health Consultant to advance its school and adolescent health agenda. This consultancy is remote but based out of the New York City headquarters, therefore offering a vital chance to contribute to children’s well-being worldwide.


Your Role as a School Health Consultant

Under the supervision of the Health Specialist (Adolescents, School, Mental Health), the School Health Consultant will support UNICEF’s Maternal Newborn Adolescent Health Unit. You will contribute to key initiatives and deliverables from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2026.

Key responsibilities for this School Health Consultant role include:

  • Developing Technical Tools & Country Support: First, help compile the Y-Check Toolkit to operationalize scheduled well-care visits for adolescents (10-14 and 15-19 years) through primary healthcare facilities, schools, and community service points. Provide technical support to countries like Jamaica, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Brazil, and Belize, tailoring well-care visit packages and training. Furthermore, support data analysis and documentation of Y-Check implementation experiences to inform best practices and scale-up. This is a core duty of the School Health Consultant.
  • Enhancing Global Health Data Initiatives: Next, contribute to developing and refining a GAMA toolkit for adolescent health data initiatives. You will also support data-to-action workshops in countries such as Indonesia, Brazil, and South Africa, collaborating with WHO and the DAPM team. Additionally, review and enhance the Global Adolescent Health Dashboard and country profiles based on GAMA indicators for an upcoming global launch. Finally, support program documentation for donor reporting, including annual reports and quarterly updates. This is crucial work for a School Health Consultant.
  • Coordinating Partner Collaboration & Reporting: Moreover, contribute to developing WHO-UNICEF Operational Guidance and country support for health-promoting schools, including webinars and technical briefs. Facilitate H6 + AHWB Technical working group meetings and coordinate Yale Institute for Global Health fellows’ assignments. Lastly, support the compilation and analysis of CSI indicators and COAR for the Annual Review related to Adolescent Health and Mental Health. The School Health Consultant drives these collaborations.

Qualifications for This School Health Consultancy

UNICEF seeks a committed professional for this School Health Consultant position with the following:

  • Education: You must hold an advanced university degree (Master’s) in Public Health, School Health, Global Health, Nursing, or Medicine.
  • Work Experience: You need more than 5 years of proven experience in tracking programs, project management, financial management, data analytics, budget management, and coordinating with Country Offices in child, adolescent, and school health areas at country, regional, and international levels.
  • Language: A strong command of English is required.

Important Consultancy Details (Remote | New York City)

You must complete a profile in UNICEF’s e-Recruitment system and upload academic credentials. Provide a financial proposal detailing costs per deliverable and the total lump-sum (in US$). Also, include estimated travel, daily subsistence, visa, health insurance, and living costs if applicable. UNICEF will cover emergent/unforeseen duty travel. The selected candidate must have current health insurance. Payment depends on submission of agreed, satisfactory deliverables. In summary, UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment for substandard or delayed work.

U.S. Visa Information for Consultants: If residing in the United States under a different visa (excluding US Citizens, G4 Visa, and Green Card holders), the selected School Health Consultant and household members must change their visa status to G4. Furthermore, spouse household members will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to work.
