The Opportunity: Driving Impact as a Lead Full Stack Engineer

As a Lead Full Stack Engineer, you will spearhead product development efforts for MindLogger, the Child Mind Institute’s critical software platform. This platform, crucially, delivers evidence-based tools for scientific discovery and enhanced health outcomes. The application itself utilizes React, React Native, and Python, leveraging Postgres, and resides on AWS. Given this, the architecture heavily emphasizes its web and mobile clients, and you should possess a strong understanding of these technologies and their respective ecosystems.

This full-time, exempt position reports directly to the Engineering Director. While candidates located within commuting distance of the NYC Metro Area should expect to work on-site at least 4 days per week, remote work may be considered for those outside of the commuting range.


What You’ll Do: Key Responsibilities for a Lead Full Stack Engineer

A successful Lead Full Stack Engineer at Child Mind Institute will contribute through various essential responsibilities:

  • First, architecting, implementing, and optimizing features across both frontend and backend systems within MindLogger.
  • Moreover, close collaboration occurs with product, design, and the Engineering Director to refine features, estimate effort, and assess feasibility.
  • Additionally, you will develop and implement the technical strategy for the product.
  • Furthermore, a key aspect involves suggesting and implementing development best practices.
  • Consequently, you will generate ideas for and actively drive technical improvements to the application.
  • Beyond that, you will mentor other engineers, fostering team growth.
  • Lastly, you will perform technical interviews for engineering candidates and participate in agile-style ceremonies, including standups, planning, refinement, and retrospectives.

What You Bring: Skills & Experience

To excel as a Lead Full Stack Engineer at the Child Mind Institute, candidates typically possess:

  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years in web and/or mobile application development experience, with at least 3 years in a lead role.
  • Technical Proficiency: At least 3 years of experience in at least three of the following relevant domain areas or specific technologies. Reasonable substitutions are accepted (e.g., Ruby/Node for Python, Django/Express/Rails for FastAPI, etc.):
    • Mobile Frontend / Typescript & React Native
    • Web Frontend / Typescript & React
    • Backend API development / Python & FastAPI
    • Infrastructure Automation / Terraform & AWS
    • CI/CD Automation / Jenkins & Github Actions
  • Cloud Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in cloud-based development.
  • Environment Familiarity: Proficiency working in Linux-like environments.
  • Version Control: Proficiency in a modern distributed version control system (Git is used).

Compensation Details

  • Remote Compensation: The salary range for remote positions is $147,457.10 – $164,918.70 USD.
  • NYC Metro Area Compensation: The salary range for positions within the NYC Metro Area is $155,218 – $194,022 USD.

Please note: Factors such as a candidate’s work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations, directly affect the salary offered within this range. Additionally, this salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state and depending on the role), should authorization be granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
