As a Junior Analyst, you’ll play a crucial role in strengthening our foresight capabilities across all mission hubs and technical areas.


About Your Role as a Strategic Foresight Analyst

This is a home-based, temporary assignment for an initial period of six months, with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and organizational needs. As a Strategic Foresight Analyst, you’ll provide essential research, analytical, and administrative support, directly contributing to UNOPS’ strategic decision-making processes.


What You’ll Do as a Strategic Foresight Analyst

Under the guidance of your supervisor, your responsibilities will include:

Research and Data Collection

First, you’ll conduct in-depth desk research on emerging global trends, technological advancements, and policy developments relevant to UNOPS’ diverse areas of work. Your expertise as a Strategic Foresight Analyst will be key here. Furthermore, you’ll assist in identifying and collecting pertinent data from a wide range of sources, including reports, publications, databases, and online platforms. Ultimately, you’ll support the development and implementation of effective data collection tools and methodologies for various foresight activities.

Analysis and Synthesis

Next, you’ll contribute to the analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data to uncover patterns, generate insights, and develop potential future scenarios. Additionally, you’ll support the synthesis of research findings and data into clear, concise summaries, briefs, and compelling presentations. Moreover, you’ll help identify potential risks and opportunities for UNOPS, leveraging your foresight analysis. Crucially, you’ll contribute, through foresight and scenarization, to the development of critical corporate strategic documents. This is a core function of a Strategic Foresight Analyst.

Documentation and Knowledge Management

Moving on, you’ll assist in the thorough documentation of foresight processes, methodologies, and findings. Beyond that, you’ll support the development and maintenance of a comprehensive knowledge repository for all foresight-related information and resources. In addition, you’ll help prepare impactful reports, presentations, and other communication materials to disseminate foresight insights to relevant stakeholders.

Support to Technical Experts and Missions

Importantly, you’ll provide direct support to technical experts and mission staff actively involved in foresight activities, empowering them with actionable foresight insights. Also, you’ll assist in organizing engaging foresight workshops, seminars, and other events. Finally, you’ll support the seamless integration of foresight insights into strategic planning and program development processes at the mission level.

Monitoring and Reporting

Throughout your tenure, you’ll assist in continuously monitoring emerging trends and developments crucial to UNOPS’ mandate. Likewise, you’ll support the preparation of regular updates and reports on foresight activities and findings.

Other Duties

As needed, you’ll provide additional research, analytical, and administrative support as required by your supervisor to advance UNOPS’ foresight agenda.

What We’re Looking For

Education

You should hold a university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in international relations, political science, economics, development studies, social sciences, or a related field. A demonstrated interest in future trends and strategic thinking is essential for this Strategic Foresight Analyst role. Alternatively, a Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field may substitute for some years of experience.

Experience

A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in research, analysis, or administrative support is required. Specifically, familiarity with various research methodologies and data analysis techniques is important. You should also have proficiency with standard office software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite). Crucially, a genuine interest in global trends, emerging technologies, and future scenarios is highly valued.

Languages

Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language (e.g., French, Spanish) is considered a valuable asset.
