Are you an organized and detail-oriented individual passionate about human rights and grassroots advocacy? Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) is seeking a Grassroots Legislative Advocacy Assistant to support our Movement Building and Member Engagement Department. This is a unique opportunity to help coordinate a major national event and support a global human rights movement. The position is based in Washington, D.C., and is a hybrid role.

About Amnesty International & The Role

Amnesty International USA is the U.S. presence of a global organization that fights injustice worldwide while also protecting human rights in the United States. Our democratically governed, grassroots membership organization includes over one million members and activists across all 50 states.

You will play an important role in supporting projects within the Grassroots Leadership and Engagement (GLE) Unit. For this reason, you will assist with the planning, organizing, and implementation of the upcoming Youth Power Action Activist Training and Lobby Day, to be held in March 2026.


 

What You’ll Do

  • Provide Administrative & Logistical Support: You will provide key administrative and logistical support for overall event management. You will also maintain databases and spreadsheets using Quorum.
  • Manage Participant Coordination: You will assist with the event registration process by tracking and organizing applicants and ensuring timely replies. Furthermore, you will help book travel arrangements and coordinate hotels for all participants.
  • Communicate & Troubleshoot: You will answer emails and inquiries about the Lobby Day event from AIUSA members, including working with parents and guardians of participants under 18. In addition, you will proactively assist in handling any arising issues and troubleshoot emerging problems as they occur.
  • Organize Meetings: You will assist in organizing meetings both internally and externally. You will also communicate with consultants and partners as needed.
  • Required Work Hours: You will need to work some nights and weekends, especially leading up to the event.

 

Qualifications & Experience

We are seeking a proactive and organized self-starter with a strong attention to detail.

Your Experience & Skills

  • You must have a high school diploma or a BA/BS degree with at least one year of relevant experience.
  • We strongly prefer previous experience organizing and supporting events, both virtually and in-person.
  • Experience working with high school or college-aged students and/or youth programs is also preferred.
  • We consider experience with legislative advocacy and/or working on Capitol Hill a plus.
  • You must be able to work independently, multitask, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Likewise, you must have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
  • You must have strong IT skills with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with project management tools like Asana is a bonus.

Work Environment This is a hybrid role that requires you to work from the D.C. office as needed. You must provide your own laptop and have a reliable internet connection. You must also be available to attend events in Washington, D.C., from March 6-9, 2026.

  • Duration: This is a 4-month fixed-term role, beginning no later than December 2025 and ending by mid-March 2026.
