Your Role as Global Employee Relations Director

As the Senior Director, Global Employee Relations, you’ll be key to a positive employee experience at the IRC. First and foremost, you will lead the development and use of global employee relations policies, practices, and procedures. Ultimately, this ensures alignment with best practices and our core values, including Respect at Work, anti-harassment, and anti-retaliation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Setting Global Employee Relations Strategy: To begin with, guide the big picture for employee relations. Moreover, make sure our policies reflect an inclusive, people-focused approach. In fact, you’ll be the main expert on workplace safety matters, from planning to case reviews and trend analysis.
  • Managing Complex Employee Relations Issues: Furthermore, you’ll be the main People & Culture partner for our Ethics and Compliance Unit. Consequently, you’ll manage complex employee relations cases, including those about sexual harassment and exploitation. Additionally, you’ll offer expert advice on union-related matters. This, therefore, ensures we follow US labor laws and international standards.
  • Developing Global ER Best Practices: Beyond that, build the skills of our global People & Culture teams. You’ll do this through complete training and education programs. Crucially, ensure proactive, preventive, and multi-language communication of policies and procedures. In summary, keep our US and global intranet content accurate and helpful.

Qualifications for This Global Employee Relations Director Position

We’re looking for an experienced professional with:

  • At least 15 years of growing global Human Resources experience. This includes, significantly, a minimum of 5 years specifically in Employee Relations.
  • Proven expertise in applying relevant US and international employment laws, rules, and trends.
  • A strong commitment to humanitarian principles. Previous work in the humanitarian or development sector is, admittedly, preferred.
  • An excellent ability to build and foster teamwork. This is, indeed, vital in a diverse, multicultural environment.
  • A Master’s degree in Labor Relations, Conflict Resolution, International Relations, or a related field, or a JD, is, furthermore, a big plus.
  • Proven success in resolving conflicts, managing risks, and influencing policy decisions.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills. This includes, for instance, leading presentations and training sessions.
  • Ability to travel about 25% globally, both planned and unplanned.
