The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is looking for a Dynamic Socioeconomic Analyst to join our Regional Bureau for Arab States (RBAS) Inclusive Growth and Finance Team!
About the Role
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to poverty and inequality reduction and foster sustainable human development across the Arab states. You’ll play a crucial role in conceptualizing, initiating, and implementing regional and sub-regional initiatives that address critical socioeconomic issues. Working closely with governments, national institutions, and Country Offices, you’ll support the integration of social protection systems into development agendas, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We’re looking for someone deeply familiar with the socioeconomic context of the Arab region who can hit the ground running to help us build resilient societies based on decent jobs.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct high-quality research on relevant socioeconomic topics.
- Provide vital support to Country Offices on programs, policy dialogue, and analytical work, particularly in social protection and poverty reduction.
- Develop and deliver training for Country Offices as needed.
- Contribute to the UNDP’s corporate work on the informal economy, collaborating closely with the Gender Team.
- Drive knowledge management and advocacy initiatives for the Inclusive Growth & Finance Team.
- Help design and implement socioeconomic recovery programs and strategies at regional and country levels, partnering with relevant regional development partners.
- Organize and contribute to key events for RBAS.
- Offer technical support on data collection, including disaggregated primary and secondary data, to assess micro-level socioeconomic impacts and trends.
- Prepare essential notes, briefs, presentations, and project proposals.
- Respond to requests from the Inclusive Growth & Finance Team Leader with high-quality, timely outputs.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience
- An Advanced University Degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Economics, Statistics, Development Economics, or a related field is required.
- Alternatively, a first-level university degree in these fields combined with an additional two years of relevant experience will be considered.
- A minimum of two years (with a Master’s degree) or four years (with a Bachelor’s degree) of progressively responsible experience in microeconomic/social protection analysis and development program support.
Essential Skills
- Proven ability to provide technical advice on social protection in programming.
- Demonstrated capacity for creative and proactive program development, working across teams and sectors.
- Strong writing and analytical skills in English on relevant topics.
Desired Skills
- Familiarity with UNDP’s current guidelines and project management tools.
- Experience in designing programs/projects in this area.
- A comprehensive understanding of UNDP’s work, especially the Poverty and Inequality signature solution.
- Knowledge of current and emerging socioeconomic challenges in the Arab states region.
- Ability to promote individual and organizational learning and knowledge sharing.
- Perseverance and commitment to delivering high-quality results.
Language Requirements
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Arabic is essential.
- Knowledge of French or another UN language is a plus.
