About This Caseworker Richmond Role
As a Caseworker in Richmond for OIRS (Office of Immigrant & Refugee Services), you will work closely with clients, colleagues, and outside partners. Your main goal involves creating and putting into action service and self-reliance plans. Specifically, these plans are carefully designed for each client’s needs. What You’ll Do as a Caseworker in Richmond
As a Caseworker, you will handle several key responsibilities.
First, you will set up timely services both before and after arrival. Importantly, this ensures each client has basic needs like housing, food, medical care, and transportation. It also helps them learn about their new surroundings. After this, you will conduct intake sessions with clients to find out their specific needs. Then, you will create self-reliance plans and timelines with each client, giving individual support through direct services, referrals, and advocacy.
Additionally, you will check and track client progress. As a result, this helps support their steps towards set goals. Furthermore, it handles challenges and ensures you use available resources effectively. Importantly, you must carefully record each client interaction, following program rules. You will also enter client details into databases and help with tracking and reporting as needed.
Finally, you will work well with coworkers and partner groups. This means building and keeping good relationships with local service providers for the benefit of clients. Moreover, you must use your personal, insured vehicle and/or public transportation (if available) to travel and move clients and materials throughout the service area. You might also train and guide volunteers and interns. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Job Requirements for a Richmond Caseworker
Education
Candidates should ideally have a Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field of study.
Work Experience
You need relevant professional experience in a human services field; consequently, we strongly prefer at least 2 years’ experience. We also strongly prefer experience working with refugee and/or immigrant groups.
Demonstrated Skills & Competencies
You will need strong skills in building relationships, diplomacy, and networking; this includes effectively building both internal and outside connections. You must show success working and communicating well in different cultures. Indeed, you should be a self-starter with great problem-solving skills, combined with a proven ability to handle many tasks, set priorities, and manage time well. You must pay close attention to details and produce accurate work; this is key.
You must speak and write fluent English. Indeed, knowing languages common among IRC’s clients, such as Dari, Farsi, and/or Pashto, proves very helpful. It is also important to have strong skills with Microsoft Office programs (like Word, Excel, Outlook). Furthermore, you will use the internet and other digital tools for entering data, doing research, and solving problems. Lastly, you need a valid driver’s license and your own insured car.
Working Environment & Compensation
The role combines standard office work, remote work, and time in the field within the service area. You may sometimes work on weekends and/or evenings.
